Vishakapatnam, July 11: YSRCP Women’s Wing President and MLC Varudu Kalyani fiercely criticized the coalition government under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for its failure to ensure women’s safety, particularly in government institutions like Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada.
Speaking at the YSRCP office in Visakhapatnam, she highlighted a disturbing incident where a lab assistant photographed female students’ private body parts, blackmailed them, and faced no significant action despite complaints, with only co-accused technicians suspended. Kalyani questioned Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s inaction in his own district, dismissing his “empty dialogues” on women’s safety, and criticized Home Minister Anitha for focusing on political attacks against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy instead of addressing the plight of 50 traumatized students.
The government is negligent, rising atrocities, including hidden cameras in Gudlavalleru Engineering College, a nursing student’s assault in Rajahmundry, and a gang rape in Anantapur.
Kalyani condemned the ineffective Shakti App, contrasting it with the YSRCP’s Disha App. She also highlighted the unchecked drug trade in Visakhapatnam. She demanded stringent action against perpetrators, accountability from leaders, and urgent measures to restore women’s safety across the state.
