Mr. Chandrababu, in Andhra Pradesh, you are pushing the police system down an extremely dangerous path to carry out political repression and silence those who question you. Through the unhealthy practices that have emerged under your rule, you have sown poisonous seeds across the State, and they are gradually taking root and growing into a dangerous culture. When children go missing, there is no urgency in the investigation. When complaints relating to crimes against women are not even registered, there is no response. Even when a tribal woman is stripped and assaulted, there are no arrests. But if someone questions the government on social media, they are met with cases, arrests, custodial torture, and non-bailable charges.
It has been more than 30 days since little Gnaneshwari from Tuni Assembly constituency in Kakinada district went missing. Even now, there is no trace of the child. Carrying his daughter's photographs, her father has been going from street to street in search of her. Unable to bear the trauma, the child's mother has fallen seriously ill. If the government fails even to trace a missing child, how can it assure the safety and security of the people?
In another incident, in Peddapuram of Kakinada district, there was extraordinary reluctance to even register a case in the sexual assault of a mentally challenged girl. If the authorities colluded with the accused, where is governance in this State?
The incident in Kavali of SPSR Nellore district, where a former TDP councillor allegedly stripped and assaulted a tribal woman, has shaken the State. Delaying the registration of the complaint for an entire week in such a horrific incident was a grave mistake. The failure to arrest anyone even now is even more appalling. On top of that, filing a counter-case against the victims themselves shows that you are running the police system in a manner where offenders are protected while victims are harassed.
The Sai Krishna lock-up death and the disappearance of his body shook the State. Even today, you have no answers to the questions raised by his mother. The Kranti Kumar suicide case and the dying declaration he gave deeply disturbed people who witnessed it through social media. The lock-up deaths of Gangamma and Tirupatamma, and the suicide of Kalavathi allegedly due to police harassment, have all brought immense disgrace to the police system in the State.
To divert public attention from all these incidents, and because you have no answers to offer, are you resorting to diversionary politics every single day? Information is emerging that you have instructed the police to invoke non-bailable sections against social media activists instead of the relevant legal provisions applicable to their alleged offences, to link these cases to organised crime, and to ensure that such instructions reach every Station House Officer, almost like an organised criminal himself. This is an extremely dangerous trend. Failing to answer people's questions and instead trying to intimidate them amounts to murdering democracy.
Bringing YouTube influencer and Osmania University Gold Medalist journalist KVR from Hyderabad with a large police force, without following due legal procedure, falsely attributing acts to him that he never committed in the FIR, and sending him to jail is an extremely reprehensible act.
In the case of YouTuber Joseph, even after he secured bail from four different courts in the cases filed against him, you allegedly acted out of arrogance and had your people directly attack the concerned police stations. In your intolerance, you went to the extent of invoking charges normally used against terrorists. Mr. Chandrababu, you, Pawan Kalyan, Lokesh, and your party leaders have said many things in the past and continue to say the same even now. Today, others are merely repeating those very same words and questioning you. If that is the case, shouldn't the very same charges be applied to you as well? Portraying critics as criminals, sending your people to attack police stations with the intention of eliminating them, while the police remain silent spectators, are all dangerous signs for democracy. This is an attack on constitutional rights. This is an attack on democratic values.
Mr. Chandrababu, what Andhra Pradesh needs is not a rogue police state. It does not need jungle raj. It needs a government that ensures the safety and security of its people. It needs a system that delivers justice to victims. It needs faith that everyone is equal before the law. It needs a police system that functions in accordance with the Constitution, not at the behest of political instructions.
