Tadepalli, July 27: YSRCP Legal Cell State President M. Manohar Reddy and former Minister Sake Sailajanath demanded a CBI or sitting-judge inquiry into the death of Mala Gangamma, stating that civil rights and questioning voices had been silenced under the Chandrababu government.
They said police violence had increased sharply across Andhra Pradesh, forcing victims to record selfie videos before taking their own lives. Gangamma approached the police after her son went missing, but they failed to act. A Special Investigation Team was constituted only after the High Court intervened. The leaders said the SIT then subjected Gangamma to harassment, leading to her death. Police personnel, rather than her family members, reportedly conducted her funeral. They also said a man named Dargappa was tortured after police linked him to Gangamma.
Sailajanath said human life had lost its value under the present government and constitutional rights were being openly violated. He questioned the fate of the SIT inquiry into Saikrishna’s custodial death, the withdrawal of his mother’s petition seeking a CBI probe, and the circumstances behind Kranti Kumar’s suicide.
The leaders said custodial deaths, water deaths and suicides reflected unchecked police excesses. They demanded an independent investigation, protection for Gangamma’s family and immediate financial assistance from the government.
