ERC order exposes Naidu’s loot and Lies

Nellore, Sep 28: YSRCP Nellore District President and former Minister Kakani Goverdhan Reddy came down heavily on the coalition government, calling the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) order a “tight slap” to Chandrababu Naidu’s misrule.
Kakani said that in 2024–25, Discoms proposed Rs. 2,758.76 crore in true-up charges, but APERC approved only Rs. 1,863.64 crore, rejecting inflated claims. Discoms had shown power purchase costs at Rs.5.84–Rs.5.89 per unit, while ERC approved only Rs.5.27. Transmission and distribution losses projected at 10.17% were cut to 9.87%. Despite this, Discoms illegally collected Rs.2,787.18 crore (Rs. 0.40 per unit). ERC has now ordered refund of Rs. 923.55 crore in 12 installments at Rs. 0.13 per unit.
He said consumers were already burdened with Rs. 6,072.86 crore in November 2024 and another Rs. 9,412.50 crore in January 2025 bills. Till March 2025, people were looted in the name of excess charges. “YSRCP never violated ERC norms nor imposed illegal burdens, which is why no ERC reprimand ever came during Jagan’s tenure,” he stressed.
On housing, Kakani called Chandrababu’s Assembly claims “blatant lies.” Naidu falsely claimed 6.15 lakh houses under progress, 3 lakh completed, more by Diwali, and enhanced subsidies for BC/SC/STs, all of which are untrue. In contrast, YSRCP spent Rs. 32,909 crore, giving Rs. 2.70 lakh support per house including free sand, steel, and cement. Nearly 2 lakh TIDCO houses were given to the poor at Rs. 1 each, whereas Chandrababu’s plan forced families into EMIs of Rs.3,000 per month for 20 years (~Rs. 7.2 lakh).
Highlighting YSRCP’s achievements, Kakani said 71,811 acres were acquired for housing layouts, 17,005 new colonies were developed, and land worth Rs. 76,000 crore was given to the poor. Chandrababu, instead of supporting the poor, filed nearly 1,000 cases to block house pattas, even against SC/ST/BC/Minorities in Amaravati. Only after Supreme Court intervention could YS Jagan distribute a record 50,793 pattas at one place.
Kakani concluded: “Chandrababu’s rule is about looting people through inflated power bills and housing scams, while YSRCP under Jagan delivered dignity, houses, and justice to the poor. The ERC order has unmasked the lies and loot of Naidu’s government.”
