*YSRCP flays coalition for neglecting farmers during heavy rains*

Cheepurupalli, Sept 26: YSRCP has slammed the coalition government for not providing adequate compensation to farmers who lost their standing crops in the recent rains and cyclone.

Speaking to media here on Saturday, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Botsa Satyanarayana said, the government providing Rs 25,000 compensation is meager while the farmers are at loss and there is heavy damage due to the heavy rains.

The farmers should get a compensation of Rs 1 lakh per acre for banana and papaya and Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre for maize, Botsa, who inspected the damaged crops here, said.

Ever since the coalition government was formed, no farmer was given compensation which shows the indifference towards them.

The government failed to take preventive measures and extend help to the people despite warnings from the Weather Office. Many places were left without electricity and drinking water for over three days and there was no proper explanation for that, he said.

The people of the coastal region had to wade through hardships due to the negligence of the government, he said.
