Tadepalli, April 5: YSRCP leaders stated that attacks and harassment against Dalits have increased after the coalition government came to power and warned that the government will have to pay the price for the suffering of Dalit communities.
Speaking at the birth anniversary event of Babu Jagjivan Ram held at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, leaders said the government has failed to protect Dalits. They said even serious incidents are being ignored by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, which shows the government’s attitude.
Leaders condemned the incident where Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu allegedly assaulted a Dalit person, calling it a clear example of how Dalits are being treated in the State. They also alleged that Dalit women are facing attacks and humiliation in public places and that no strict action is being taken.
Former MLA Malladi Vishnu said Dalits have no protection under the present government and are facing continuous injustice. Former Minister Vellampalli Srinivas said even people in high positions are involved in such acts, which is deeply concerning.
Leaders recalled the contributions of Jagjivan Ram and said that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been working for the upliftment of weaker sections. They warned that YSRCP will strongly fight against these injustices and ensure justice for Dalits.
