Is Andhra Pradesh becoming another Bihar?

Andhra Pradesh is fast deteriorating into another Bihar in rowdyism and lawlessness. Women are being targeted in the worst possible manner if they oppose the ruling TDP’s misdemeanors. What is worse, the chief minister is maintaining a strategic silence in tacit support of the perpetrators.

After Chandrababu assumed power, several women are foced to take their lives due to the atrocities by the ruling party members. It’s a typical case of fence eating crop. The latest is the molestation and disrobing of a Dalit woman for opposing the TDP leaders’ land grab in Jerripothulapalem in Pendurthi mandal of Vizag district. She was subjected to insults by the TDP honchos themselves.

But, this is not the only one. Girls like Rishiteswari, Usha and Sandhya Rani have ended their lives due to harassment at their colleges. The perpetrators in all these cases went Scot-free because of their proximity to the ruling dispensation.
One cannot but talk about Tehsildar Vanajakshi who valiantly fought the illegal sand quarrying carried out at the behest of TDP MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar. She was physically attacked. Yet, Chandrababu backed the perpetrators and bullied Vanajakshi into silence.

At Anakapalle in Vizag district, a married woman identified as Lavanya was dragged into the bushes and was brutally killed. The accused are TDP leader and his sons. Similarly, Satyavathi, who fought against the Mega Aqua Food Park at Tundurru was slapped with a case under section 307 and was thrown behind the bars for 20 days. A measure of the TDP’s anti-woman behavior is that two TDP ministers are currently facing cases of molestation and rape.

At this rate, AP might soon overtake Bihar in crimes against women and lawlessness.
