Sharmila padayatra to resume from Feb 6

Press Release

Hyderabad, January 30: Sharmila’s Maro Praja Prasthanam padayatra will resume from February 6 from where it was withheld in Ranga Reddy district following her knee injury.

“Sharimala will undertake the padayatra to carry forward the message of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to highlight the failure of the State Government and its nexus with TDP,” party official spokesperson Vasireddy Padma told reporters here on Wednesday.

Though she is undergoing a strict regimen for fitness, Sharmila will resume the padayatra overcoming all odds to console the people who are heavily burdened by the policies of State Government and the indifference of TDP which is on a “Save Congress” mission, she said.

Sharmila’s padayatra, which began at Idupulapaya on October 18, was suspended on December 14 after she tripped while getting down from the bus after a public meeting in Ranga Reddy district.

Her injury aggravated and she had to undergo knee surgery and six weeks of physiotherapy and she worked hard to recuperate. Doctors had given the nod but she has to take some precautions during the mass contact programme.

She has so far walked for 58 days covering 822.1 km spread over five districts and will resume the padayatra from the where she had to stop due to the injury, Padma said.

The padayatra will conclude at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district by which time, Sharmila be trekking 3,000 km, a feat which no woman has done so far in Indian polity.

The anti-people policies of the Congress government and the callous attitude of TDP will be highlighted during the padayatra besides knowing firsthand the problems of the people and giving them hope and assurance that YSR Congress is the future and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will bring in the era of a welfare state, she said.

When asked about the Telangana issue, she said, “we do not foresee any problem in the region as Sharmila had covered the region during her padayatra. It is Congress which is at fault and YSRCP was categorical about its stand on the issue.”

It is Congress that has not told its stand and created all the ruckus and we were first to tell that Congress as a party should first give its view on Telangana before All party meeting, she said adding that Sharmila’s padyatra will be successful in the region as before.
