Tadepalli, Oct 13: Former YSRCP MP Margani Bharat demanded an immediate BC census and the appointment of a special BC Commission to establish accurate population figures and formulate a comprehensive reservation policy.
Addressing the media at YSRCP headquarters, he urged the Chandrababu Naidu government to pass an Assembly resolution, press the Centre for constitutional amendments and secure proportionate representation for Backward Classes.
Bharat challenged Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh to clarify their links with Birru Pratap Reddy, who approached the courts against BC reservations. He questioned whether the TDP government had appointed Pratap Reddy to a power-sector body during 2014–19 through a government order and demanded explanations regarding his photographs with TDP leaders.
Highlighting Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s record, Bharat said YSRCP provided BCs six of 13 Zilla Parishad chairperson positions, around 67% of Mandal Parishad president posts and nine mayoral positions across 14 corporations. He also cited 53 chairperson positions in government corporations, 56 dedicated BC corporations and substantial representation in agricultural market committees.
He questioned TDP’s promises of 34%, and potentially 40%, BC reservations without a clear implementation roadmap. The government must specify BC representation in MPTCs, ZPTCs, municipal wards, corporations, mayoral offices and Zilla Parishads, rather than relying on political announcements.
Bharat challenged TDP to demonstrate its commitment through candidate selection, political appointments and enforceable reservations. He demanded concrete measures for BC education, employment and economic advancement.
YSRCP will continue fighting until Backward Classes secure their rightful political representation, statutory protections and social justice, he asserted.
