YSRC demands roll back of power tariff -jan18,2012

YSR Congress Party has slammed the State Government for hiking the power tariff and said the party will launch an agitation demanding a roll back and will also seek legal recourse.
“The State has gone back on the poll promises given by YS Rajsekhar Reddy on one hand and has put an additional burden of Rs 2,500 crores by increasing the tariff in the name of adjustments,” the party official spokesman, BajireddyGovardhan told reporters at the party office here on Wednesday.
Government has violated the 2009 poll promise that there will be no power hike for the next five years and will supply 7 to 9 hour power. “We strongly object to this decision as the Congress retained power with YSR spearheading the campaign with resolute promises,” he said.
We demand the State to roll back the tariff or else our Party will take up the agitation path and also explore legal options as well, he said.
Instead of increasing the power generation to meet the growing demand, the State has taken the easier path of increasing the energy charges. Earlier, it has increased RTC ticket charges and power charges as well and such anti-people measures will not be tolerated as they reflect on the integrity of YSR, he said.
The increase of 80 paise per unit for industrial consumers and 34 paise for domestic consumers cannot be accepted. The government has increased price of liquor and registration fee and is netting money instead spending on welfare measures and giving concessions, he said.
Comparing the governance of YSR with that of K Roshaiah and K Kiran Kumar Reddy, Govardhan said, “ it is a great disappointment as the Congress failed to live up to the promises made by YSR and has been taking measures that would hurt the sentiments of YSR fans besides attracting the ire of general public,” he said.
