Sharmila laments farm sector negligence

Sharmila, who is doing
Maro Praja Prasthanam Padayatra on behalf of her brother and YSR Congress
President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, entered Kurnool district at Maddikera to a
red carpet welcome by the locals on 22nd day on Thursday.
Addressing a public
meeting at Maddikera, Sharmila decried the stance of the state government towards
the farmers and its inability to announce an acceptable minimum support price (MSP)
for agricultural produce.
Sharmila said she had
seen people throwing away their tomato produce during the course of her
Padayatra due to lack of MSP. YSR had given reasonable minimum support price to
the agricultural produce, provided input subsidy and fertilizers besides free
power to farmers, she said, adding that the farmers would not have faced the
present distress if the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government too had extended similar
help to the farmers.
“The Congress Party,
which has been enjoying power in the state thanks to YSR, has thrown away the
welfare of the farmers to the winds,” she lamented.
Sharmila has asserted
that TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has decided not to introduce no-confidence
motion against the anti-people congress Government because of his secret
understanding with the Congress leadership.
Sharmila has meanwhile
completed 281.30 km of her 3000-km walkathon at the end of 22nd day
on Thursday.
