Govt staying Coop polls where Cong is weak

Hyderabad, January 25: Reiterating its charge that the State is resorting to large scale irregularities in the cooperative polls, YSRCP has said the government has been invoking stay at places where Congress is weak, though the elections are being held on non party basis.

“The state has stayed elections at 45 places where opponents are strong during the past two days and figure is likely to stretch up to 100. The state has already resorted to many irregularities right from the enrollment of voters and now the latest being brining stay and we condemn the blatant misuse of power, party advisor DA Somayajulu told reporters here on Friday..

Government is bringing stay to the elections invoking section 22 ( c ) of the Cooperative Societies Act 1964 which clearly says that it can be used only when there are natural calamities, law and order problem or when voters cannot participate in the elections.

It is unfair on part of the Congress government to use this provision to stay the elections selectively that too after allowing large scale irregularities in enrollment of voters.

We brought all the irregularities to the notice of the Governor and district collectors but no action was taken. Though the elections are apolitical in nature, Congress has been selective right from voter registration to the polls, he said.

The very purpose of the cooperative movement is defeated with the enrollment of non farmers and conducting the elections in a haphazard manner, he said.

YSR wanted to make all the 2,900 primary agricultural cooperative societies self sufficient and to take care of all the needs of the farmers and chalked out a plan to take technology to the farmers’ doorstep which could not materialise due his untimely death but the present government shows no concern to farmers’ problems.

We strongly condemn the Congress government for using backdoor methods to get grip over the cooperative bodies though it did not bother to provide any succor to the farmers in pre-harvest and post harvest seasons, he said.

Coming down heavily on Chandrababu Naidu, he said, ‘his remarks have been off the hat and make no sense as he is frustrated with the recent surveys showing dismal figures in the TDP kitty.”

It is ridiculous for Chandrababu Naidu to say that Congress and YSR Congress have ganged up as CBI told the High Court that the government is not cooperative.

“If the government is not cooperative it will have an effect on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. If we have a truce with Congress why will our leader be in jail for so long,” he said.

As TDP is losing election after election, Naidu has been speaking in frustration and his remarks are often incoherent, he said.
