Govt ordered to conduct local body elections

Hyderabad, Sept 4: The AP High Court today ordered the government to conduct elections to all ZPTC, MPTC and Grama Panchayats within the next three months.

Asking the government to take necessary steps without any delay for the smooth conduct of elections within the stipulated time, the High Court suggested that these elections can be conducted as per the 2001 census in case latest census are not available.

It might be noted that these local bodies are under the control of special officers for more than one year as the government has not been favorably inclined to conduct the elections.

With the High Court orders, the Government is now forced to conduct the elections.
