Farming community in debt trap: Sharmila
10 Dec 2012 1:16 PM

Inmul Narva,(Mahabubnagar Dt.), Dec 10, 2012: Smt. Sharmila, who has been undertaking
Maro Praja Prasthanam Padayatra on behalf of YSR Congress party chief Y.S.
Jagan Mohan Reddy, has said that the farming community in the state has been
caught in a debt trap after the death of Dr. YSR.
Hemmed in with lack of
minimum support price (MSP) for their agricultural produce on one side and with
the absence of power supply on the other, the farmers’ financial problems have
multiplied and pushed the community into debt trap over the last three years,
Sharmila told people over the course of a Rachchabanda interaction at Inmul Narva in Mahabubnagar district on Monday.
She said Dr. YSR came
to the rescue of farmers with the waiver of crop loans and free power supply
but the Congress Government has abandoned the welfare of the farmers causing financial
suffering to them.
“If Dr.YSR were alive
today, you wouldn’t have faced this sort of situation,” she told the gathering
of people dominated by the presence of women. The gathering responded with
thunderous clasps whenever she mentioned the name of YSR.
Smt. Sharmila said YSR
used to solve the problems of farmers on a priority basis after frequent
reviews of the issues but this Government has no time to spare to think of the
welfare of the farmers.
