Hyderabad, Sept 11: The NRI wing of YSR Congress has held a protest demonstration in California demanding special category status for Andhra Pradesh on September 10 in response to the bandh call given by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Raising the slogan ‘ Special Status is our right’ they gathered at Fremont and protested against the state and central governments for going back on the assurance of special category status. The two parties ( BJP and TDP) have promised to accord special category status and have included it in their respective manifestos as well but went back on it after coming to power, the leaders told the gathering.
‘The manner in which the Centre and State governments have been watering down the issue is detrimental to the interests of the state and the future of the state would be hit hard if the status is not accorded,’ they said.
Party senior leader Botsa Satyanarayana explained to the gathering the benefits of special category status. The future generations would not forgive Chandrababu Naidu it the status is not achieved now and the core issue was given up in lieu of Polavaram contracts and meagre packages Botsa Satyanrayana said. TDP has lost its face on this count and will meet the same fate of Congress which has divided the sate undemocratically, he said.
‘We will organise Telugu people living in the US to create public opinion on the special category status. An action plan to this effect is being worked out,’ Party NRI Convenor Ms Madhulika said.
