Kurnool, Nov 10: The YSR Congress Party has strongly condemned the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh for transforming the state into a police-driven dictatorship where dissent is criminalized and democracy is throttled. Addressing the media in Kurnool, YSRCP Legal Cell State President Manohar Reddy and District President, former MLA S.V. Mohan Reddy, stated that the government is misusing police machinery to silence questioning voices, shield liquor mafia networks, and intimidate opposition through fabricated criminal cases.
YSRCP leaders stated that the government of deliberately targeting social media users, party functionaries, and media representatives for merely raising questions. “In the bus-burning case, even before facts were established, the police and ruling leaders scripted narratives to frame innocent people. The DIG himself gave contradictory statements, first saying the bikers were sober and the next day claiming they consumed liquor based on CCTV footage,” said Manohar Reddy, adding that propaganda was spread claiming the victims consumed adulterated liquor from belt shops, only to later blame critics and arrest them.
He said 27 citizens were booked simply for posting online, a brazen attack on civil liberty. “This government has made Andhra Pradesh the only state where questioning authority is treated as a crime. The coalition is filing sedition-style cases, ganja cases, and harassment FIRs to shut mouths and create fear. Even YSRCP Media State Secretary Pudi Srihari has been targeted,” he noted.
S.V. Mohan Reddy issued a direct challenge to the ruling alliance: “If the government claims belt shops don’t exist, let them prove it. If they succeed, we will quit politics. Otherwise, let TDP leaders answer why thousands of illegal belt shops and spurious liquor factories are operating across the state.” He stated that the TDP-backed mafia is manufacturing fake liquor and pushing it through belt shops, while the police frame YSRCP supporters instead of cracking down on the real culprits. “This government is running not by Ambedkar’s Constitution but by a Red-Book regime, dictatorship disguised as democracy,” he said.
Both leaders said YSRCP workers will not be cowed down by threats or illegal cases and warned that police officers acting as political agents will face accountability. “The government has unleashed a terror rule to suppress criticism. But the anger among people is rising. Those hiding behind police power will be washed away by public revolt,” they said, demanding immediate withdrawal of false cases, restoration of democratic rights, a crackdown on illegal belt shops, and focus on welfare instead of vendetta politics.
YSR Congress Party reiterated that the coalition government's misuse of state power will not break the resolve of the people or the movement for justice and accountability in Andhra Pradesh.
