YSRCP slams govt over hostel conditions

Tadepalli, August 6:YSRCP Student Wing leaders Panuganti Chaitanya (President) and Ravichandra (Working President) strongly criticised the TDP-led coalition government for the deteriorating conditions in welfare hostels and the suppression of student-led inspections. 
Speaking at the party’s central office in Tadepalli, they accused the government of targeting student leaders with false cases and issuing “blackout GOs” that prohibit entry into hostels.
They said that during a recent statewide survey conducted between July 28 and 31, the YSRCP student wing found severe shortages in basic amenities across SC, ST, BC, and minority hostels. Students were forced to sleep without mats or mosquito nets, consume food made from rotten vegetables, and use bathrooms without running water. In some hostels, children were found doing chores, and in one instance, a warden was caught consuming alcohol while students went hungry.
Instead of addressing these issues, the government allegedly filed cases under 13 sections against student leaders who highlighted these problems. The leaders condemned GOs banning student unions and political leaders from visiting hostels, calling it undemocratic.
They recalled that during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure, mess charges were increased and hostel facilities were regularly monitored. In contrast, the present government has allowed hostels to fall into crisis and is trying to silence dissent with authoritarian orders.
The student wing demanded immediate withdrawal of the blackout GOs and warned that if the government fails to act, they will intensify their agitation across the state.
