*Coalition fails to curb ganja, drugs in AP*

Tadepalli, August 27: YSRCP spokesperson Nagamalleswari demanded the resignation of Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, saying the coalition government has completely failed to control ganja and drugs across Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking at the YSRCP central office, she said Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh and Anitha had promised to eliminate ganja within 100 days and even spoke of using drones to destroy cultivation. Instead, ganja is now being seized across the State, including in the constituencies represented by the Chief Minister and Home Minister. In Kuppam, even TDP leaders approached the Collector complaining about rampant ganja sales.
Nagamalleswari said the situation has deteriorated to the point where ganja and liquor were found in a vehicle carrying police personnel in the Addanki incident. Senior police officers gave conflicting explanations, yet the Home Minister remained silent. She also referred to the seizure of about 6 kg of liquid ganja worth nearly ₹75 lakh at Gokavaram and questioned the government’s failure to contain new forms of drug trafficking.
She said the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government had taken a comprehensive approach by creating the Special Enforcement Bureau and launching Operation Parivarthana. Around 11,500 acres of ganja cultivation were destroyed, nearly 4.5 crore ganja plants were removed, 13,210 persons were arrested and 2,950 vehicles were seized. Around ₹144 crore was spent to provide alternative livelihoods and crops to tribal families dependent on ganja cultivation.
Nagamalleswari also questioned how ganja kingpin Sohail escaped and remained untraced after June 9.
She challenged the coalition government to disclose how many acres of ganja it had destroyed, how many offenders it had arrested and how much ganja it had seized, and demanded immediate action to protect youth and women from the growing drug menace.
