YSRCP slams coalition over false liquor scam

Guntur/Nellore/Srikakulam, July 20: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) strongly condemned the arrest of Lok Sabha leader P.V. Midhun Reddy, calling it a politically motivated act and part of a fabricated liquor scam designed by the coalition government to divert public attention from its failures. Party leaders across Andhra Pradesh criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s role in orchestrating what they termed “vendetta politics” and accused him of abusing institutions to target opposition leaders.
Addressing the media in Guntur, YSRCP Guntur district president and former minister Ambati Rambabu said that the so-called liquor scam was a creation of the TDP-led coalition to harass YSRCP leaders and suppress the party’s growing public support. He said that the liquor policy under YSRCP was fully transparent and received appreciation even from national regulatory bodies, while the current government was relying on false confessions and planted stories in yellow media to push its agenda. Rambabu accused Chandrababu Naidu of being the biggest political offender in the country, who went to jail for corruption and now governs while on bail.
In Nellore, former minister and PAC member Anil Kumar Yadav said that the government had no evidence of any actual scam and was trying to discredit Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy through illegal arrests. He added that Midhun Reddy and his family had no role in liquor policy and were being targeted only because of their close association with YSRCP. He further stated that liquor revenue under YSRCP increased transparently through state-managed outlets, unlike the TDP regime where private players controlled the trade.
YSRCP Doctors Wing president and former minister Dr. Seediri Appalaraju addressed the media in Srikakulam and called the liquor scam a government-manufactured narrative. He pointed out that the SIT investigation was based on media trials and coerced statements from officials. He emphasized that YSRCP’s policy reduced liquor consumption and closed down belt shops, while Naidu’s Red Book governance had triggered a climate of fear, illegal arrests, and industrial uncertainty in the state. He urged the public to see through the lies and reminded the government that justice would prevail.
