New Delhi, August 6: A delegation of YSR Congress Party Members of Parliament met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought the immediate intervention of the Union Government over the repeated security lapses concerning former Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, large-scale irregularities in the DSC recruitment process, the deteriorating law-and-order situation and deliberate obstruction of industrial operations in Andhra Pradesh.
The delegation comprised YSRCP Parliamentary Party Leader Y.V. Subba Reddy, Lok Sabha Floor Leader P.V. Midhun Reddy, and MPs Dr. Gumma Thanuja Rani, Dr. Maddila Gurumoorthy and Golla Babu Rao. The MPs presented the prevailing situation in Andhra Pradesh in detail and urged the Union Home Ministry to protect democratic rights, public safety, the rule of law and the investment climate in the State.
The MPs expressed grave concern over the State Government’s repeated failure to provide adequate security to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy despite his Z+ security status and several representations submitted to the Union Government. They referred to his visit to Devarapalli on August 5 to interact with distressed tobacco farmers, where lakhs of people gathered but the police failed to provide security proportionate to the crowd and the threat perception of a Z+ category protectee.
They explained that police personnel were absent at critical points, including the helipad, the route from the helipad to the tobacco procurement centre and the programme venue. Immediately after Y.S. Jagan alighted from the helicopter, crowds entered the helipad area by pushing aside barricades, while no police were present to regulate the gathering or create a secured passage. There was no rope party, proper security cordon, route regulation or effective crowd-control arrangement during his movement and interaction with farmers.
The MPs stated that such failures have become a recurring pattern during Y.S. Jagan’s outdoor tours over the past two years. Similar lapses occurred during his visits to Bhimavaram, Guntur Mirchi Yard and the recent Visakhapatnam–Srikakulam tour. They said safer routes were denied, last-minute route changes were imposed and the convoy was directed through narrow service roads and unsafe stretches, creating avoidable security threats. The MPs said the TDP Government was deliberately weakening security arrangements with mala fide political intentions. Amit Shah responded positively and assured appropriate consideration of the matter.
The delegation also placed before the Union Home Minister details of the serious irregularities in the DSC-2025 recruitment process, particularly the manipulation and misuse of the Sports Quota. The MPs said deserving candidates and genuine sportspersons were deprived of employment through corruption, alteration of the selection process and the use of questionable sports certificates. These irregularities caused widespread anguish among unemployed youth, students and candidates who had prepared for recruitment in good faith.
They demanded a fair, independent and impartial investigation into the entire recruitment process and strict action against everyone responsible. The MPs said the integrity of public recruitment must be protected and that the future of unemployed youth cannot be sacrificed for political and financial interests.
The MPs further raised the serious deterioration of law and order in Andhra Pradesh and the systematic misuse of the police machinery against YSRCP leaders, elected representatives, workers and supporters. They said illegal detentions, midnight arrests and politically motivated cases had become instruments of political vendetta under the coalition government.
They cited the arrest and prosecution of former Minister Dr. Seediri Appalaraju and the midnight arrest of Alur MLA Virupakshi as examples of selective policing. They said ruling-party leaders involved in attacks were being protected, while victims, complainants and YSRCP representatives standing by affected families were being booked and arrested.
The MPs also brought to Amit Shah’s notice the reported deaths of four persons in police custody during the past two months. They demanded accountability, an impartial investigation into the lock-up deaths and immediate steps to prevent custodial violence and protect the constitutional rights of citizens.
The delegation also raised the deliberate targeting of Bharathi Cements by ruling-party leaders and supporters. They said roads were being blocked and the company’s lawful operations were being disrupted. The MPs recalled that similar obstruction had earlier affected UltraTech Cement, showing that political interference in industrial operations was becoming a dangerous pattern in Andhra Pradesh.
They warned that allowing ruling-party leaders and MLAs to obstruct legally operating industries would damage investor confidence, threaten employment and send a negative message to existing and prospective investors. No industry should be subjected to political intimidation or prevented from carrying out lawful operations, they stated.
The YSRCP MPs urged the Union Government to take immediate cognisance of these issues, seek reports from the Andhra Pradesh Government and ensure adequate security for Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, an impartial investigation into the DSC recruitment irregularities, an end to politically motivated police action, accountability for custodial deaths and a secure and fair environment for industries operating in the State.
