Nellore, June 29: Former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy said the brutal assault on a tribal woman in Kavali was an inhuman act that had brought shame to civilized society and demanded immediate justice for the victim. Acting on the directions of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSRCP leaders visited the victim's residence, met her family, and assured them of the party's complete support until justice is delivered.
Addressing the media, Kakani Govardhan Reddy said the victim's account raises serious concerns about the safety of women in Andhra Pradesh. He stated that the tribal woman was stripped and brutally assaulted in the name of her son's relationship. Instead of taking action against those responsible, the police threatened the victim's family, warning that her son would be booked under the Goonda Act if they pursued the case. He said the family was forced to sign compromise documents at the police station and that false certificates were created to portray the victim as having converted her religion, with thumb impressions allegedly taken under pressure at the Tahsildar's office.
He said such actions amounted to a direct violation of the Constitution and demanded strict action against those who assaulted the victim, the officials who prepared false certificates, and the police personnel who intimidated the family. He questioned whether the local MLA was protecting the people of Kavali or shielding offenders.
Kakani said YSRCP stands with every victim of injustice irrespective of political affiliation and will continue the legal battle under the leadership of former MLA Ramireddy Pratap Kumar Reddy. He stated that the government has completely failed to ensure the safety of women and affirmed that YSRCP will stand firmly with the victim's family until justice is secured.
