Visakhapatnam, August 22: YSRCP corporators staged a protest during the GVMC council meeting in Visakhapatnam, strongly opposing the privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. They displayed placards with the slogan “Visakha Steel is Andhra’s Right” and demanded that the Central Government withdraw the privatization move.
YSRCP corporators entered the council hall during the meeting and raised slogans in front of the Mayor’s podium. They demanded an immediate halt to privatization plans and pressed for a council resolution against the move. They also raised slogans against the coalition government, stressing that the people of Andhra Pradesh would not allow privatization of the steel plant.
Responding to the protest, GVMC Mayor also joined the corporators’ agitation. A key resolution was passed in the council opposing the privatization move and recent developments at the plant. The resolution demanded withdrawal of the decision to privatize 44 departments of the plant, reinstatement of terminated contract workers, allocation of raw iron to the plant, and employment to displaced families holding R cards.
The resolution was approved unanimously in the council and it was decided to forward it to both the Central and State governments.
