YSRCP condemns police brutality

Tadepalli, May 23: A YSRCP delegation, including former Minister Ambati Rambabu, former Narasaraopet MLA Dr. Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy, former Vinukonda MLA Bolla Brahmanaidu, Sattenapalli YSRCP in-charge Gajjala Sudhir Bhargav Reddy, Dr. Chintalapudi Ashok, and K.V. Muralidhar Reddy, visited Gurazala Sub-Jail in Palnadu District to support detained YSRCP worker Upputhala Harikrishna. Harikrishna, son of YSRCP leader Upputhala Yellayya from Tangeda village, Dachepalli Mandal, endured severe physical assault by Dachepalli Circle Inspector P. Bhaskara Rao before being presented in court and remanded to Gurazala Sub-Jail. The leaders condemned the brutality and demanded immediate action.
Ambati Rambabu said YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy personally inquired about Harikrishna’s situation. He called the assault “inhumane,” stating CI Bhaskara Rao beat Harikrishna, targeting sensitive areas, in a manner “shameful to disclose publicly.” Police, with TDP leader Jani Basha, forcibly took Harikrishna from Tangeda at 4 a.m. and tortured him at Dachepalli police station. Rambabu demanded immediate medical care for Harikrishna, suspension of CI Bhaskara Rao, and legal action, including approaching higher courts and filing a private case under Section 307 (attempt to murder). He cited a similar incident involving Paleti Krishnaveni and said police target YSRCP workers with false cases.
Dr. Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy condemned CI Bhaskara Rao’s “animal-like behavior,” demanded his suspension, and criticized police for using violence instead of legal procedures. He said the ruling coalition fosters a “Red Book Constitution” in Andhra Pradesh, warned of public unrest, and pledged to take the matter to the High Court.
Bolla Brahmanaidu noted ongoing atrocities since the coalition government took power, stating police torture citizens instead of protecting them. He demanded CI Bhaskara Rao’s suspension, warned of protests if “Red Book” governance continues, and said YSRCP will fight such cases legally.
Gajjala Sudhir Bhargav Reddy said “Red Book” governance prevails, with police using third-degree methods against Harikrishna, as seen in past incidents. He urged police authorities to act swiftly and assured YSRCP workers of the party’s support in legal battles.
Upputhala Yellayya, Harikrishna’s father, said police forcibly took him and his son to Dachepalli police station, where CI Bhaskara Rao and others beat Harikrishna despite his pleas. Bhargavi, Harikrishna’s wife, expressed anguish over her husband’s brutal treatment by plainclothes police, despite no crime. She appealed for his safety, noting her family, including three children, depends on him.
