Third-Rate… Vulgar Leaders

In just the last few days, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has been rocked by a string of scandals involving its ministers and MLAs, raising serious questions about the government’s credibility and governance. The controversies range from brazen attacks on government officials to corruption, parole scandals, and indecent behavior towards women, painting a disturbing picture of the ruling party’s leadership.

At Srisailam, TDP MLA Budda Rajasekhara Reddy, under the influence of alcohol, directly attacked forest officers on duty, obstructed patrolling operations, and even harassed tribal staff. This shocking incident has drawn widespread criticism and highlighted the lawlessness among ruling party legislators.

Adding to the turmoil, Minister Atchannaidu has been caught in a storm over corruption. AGROS General Manager Mohan wrote directly to the Chief Secretary, stating that he was abruptly transferred only because he refused to act as a middleman in irregular commission dealings with dealers. The charges have created serious doubts about the integrity and governance under the coalition.

Equally disturbing are the revelations surrounding controversial parole recommendations. Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and Gudur MLA Pasam Sunil Kumar recommended parole for a known rowdy-sheeter, a move that has triggered public outrage. Even more troubling, Home Minister Anitha approved the file, giving legitimacy to such questionable decisions and drawing heavy criticism for placing criminals above public safety.

The ruling party has also been rocked by back-to-back scandals of harassment and indecent behavior. Guntur East MLA Naseer Ahmed was caught on video making obscene gestures toward a woman, a disgraceful act that went viral and embarrassed the Assembly. Later, in a shocking twist, he also harassed another woman whom he suspected of exposing the incident, pushing her into such despair that she attempted suicide.

Similarly, Amudalavalasa MLA Kuna Ravi Kumar has been subjecting KGBV Principal Soumya to repeated harassment, forcing her to stay late at his office under work pretexts, making inappropriate midnight video calls, and creating unbearable humiliation. Unable to withstand the pressure, Soumya reportedly attempted suicide, a tragic reflection of the abuse of power by elected representatives.

Taken together, these incidents expose a disturbing pattern within the TDP. In the span of barely three to four days, multiple MLAs and ministers stand-in crimes ranging from corruption and misuse of authority to direct attacks on officials and indecent acts toward women. Critics argue that these developments confirm what people are increasingly calling “third-rate, vulgar politics” within the TDP, where power is abused without accountability and women’s dignity, officials’ rights, and public trust are trampled upon with impunity.
