Tadepalli, Dec 15: Former Minister and YSR Congress Party senior leader Ambati Rambabu said the massive response to rallies held across Andhra Pradesh reflects the deep public anger against the privatisation of government medical colleges. He stated that the YSRCP is leading a people-centric movement in defence of public healthcare, and that over the last 18 months the party has been continuously fighting on people’s issues, exposing the failures of the coalition government, its “red book” style of governance, and its neglect of farmers and the poor.
Ambati Rambabu stated that the coalition government has pushed government medical colleges into the PPP mode purely for commissions, calling it a dangerous and immoral model aimed at selling off public institutions. He said the attempt to hand over colleges to private players while continuing to pay staff salaries from the government exchequer exposes a major scam, where public health is being mortgaged for kickbacks. He pointed out that the one-crore signature campaign has received overwhelming support across the state, with signatures moving from constituencies to district headquarters and then to the party’s central office, demonstrating a clear people’s mandate against privatisation.
He recalled that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had worked extensively to strengthen public healthcare, ensured zero vacancies in government hospitals, and initiated 17 new medical colleges to make medical education and treatment accessible to the poor. Today, he said, that system has been dismantled, with vacancies, shortage of medicines, and the privatisation of colleges built with public funds. Ambati Rambabu announced that on December 18, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will meet the Governor to present the people’s verdict against this policy. He warned that the YSRCP’s struggle will not stop and that the party will continue to fight until public medical colleges are protected and healthcare remains in the hands of the government, not private profiteers.
