*Home Minister fails on law & order, resorts to diversion politics: YSRCP*

Visakhapatnam, June 16: YSRCP Women’s Wing State President and MLC Varudu Kalyani came down heavily on Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, stating that while crime and insecurity continue to rise across Andhra Pradesh, the Home Minister has chosen diversionary politics and personal attacks over her constitutional responsibility of maintaining law and order.

She said it was astonishing that the Home Minister claimed crime had reduced in the presence of senior police officers, even as women across the state were witnessing a complete collapse of public safety. Under the coalition government, the police force has been transformed from protectors of the people into instruments of political vendetta, with the Constitution replaced by the “Red Book” and law enforcement functioning as an extension of the ruling alliance. She remarked that the khaki uniform has effectively become a yellow uniform, with institutions being misused for political revenge rather than justice.
Varudu Kalyani questioned why action was not taken against ruling party leaders involved in acts of violence while victims themselves faced police cases. She cited incidents involving attacks on the families of former ministers and opposition leaders, stating that police impartiality had completely eroded. She also pointed out that despite repeated criticism from the Centre over Andhra Pradesh’s policing standards, including poor emergency response times and the state’s last-place ranking in the implementation of new criminal laws, the government continues to project a false narrative of success.
Targeting the Home Minister’s political conduct, she said Anitha has repeatedly used uncivil and derogatory language against former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Minister Gudivada Amarnath, and even YS Vijayamma and YS Bharathi Reddy, lowering the dignity of her constitutional office. Instead of answering criticism politically, she resorts to personal abuse and then seeks refuge behind the “woman” card whenever questioned. “We are capable of responding in stronger terms, but our political culture and values prevent us from doing so,” she said.
The YSRCP leader further stated that while the Home Minister spends her time attacking political opponents, women continue to face violence across the state, with dozens of crimes reported every day and several incidents of rape and murder occurring regularly. She questioned the government’s silence on missing children and attacks on women and asked why the Home Minister had failed to personally reassure affected families.
Varudu Kalyani also criticised Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and coalition leaders for remaining silent on the abusive language and conduct of their own party leaders while preaching morality to others. She asserted that the Home Minister was appointed not to abuse YS Jagan and YSRCP leaders but to safeguard the lives and dignity of the people of Andhra Pradesh, and warned that the public would hold the government accountable for its failures.
