AMARAVATI : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy clarified that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) manifesto had never included any promise about supply of polished rice ( Sona Masuri) for the people of the State in response to the TDP's statements about the supply of rice.
Speaking during the second day of the Assembly Winter Session, he further added that the State government is also providing many schemes and benefits which were not mentioned in the manifesto.
The state government is planning to provide the fine quality rice to the people of the state from April 1st.
The Chief Minister advised the TDP members to first improve their knowledge on rice and its varieties and strongly clarified that the YSRCP would implement all the promises which they had made in the manifesto as well.
The state government is all set to launch a scheme for supply of fine quality rice to people first in Srikakulam district as a pilot project, said YS Jagan.
He asserted that there is a lot of difference in the quality of rice currently being supplied to people, when compared with the rice supplied to people during Chandrababu's regime.
Chief Minister said that the state government is spending additional amount of Rs 1400 crore for supplying quality rice to the people.
As planned from April 1 Swarna Masuri rice will be supplied throughout the state," the CM said.
Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath said that TDP government had spent Rs 200 crore for rice and now the YSRCP government has spent more than Rs 4,300 crore for rice supply.
Earlier, Housing Minister Sri Ranganath Raju said the YSRCP government is planning to provide Swarna Masuri rice to all the people of the state at just one rupee. He further added that plans are afoot to supply 25 lakh tonnes of rice.
