Tadepalli, Dec 30: YSRCP Legal Cell Working President Jalla Sudarshan Reddy strongly condemned the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Andhra Pradesh, stating that the Director General of Police’s irresponsible remarks themselves stand as proof of a system that has gone completely off track. Reacting to the DGP’s statement that accused persons in an animal sacrifice case were made to walk on the road due to the non-availability of a patrol vehicle, Sudarshan Reddy said such justification amounts to openly endorsing violations of law by the police. He said when those entrusted with upholding the Constitution themselves violate legal procedures, people lose all confidence in justice.
Speaking to the media at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, he said incidents of police interference in civil disputes, intimidation, and abuse of authority are routinely making headlines, yet the government has failed to rein them in. He pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh police force, which ranked number one nationally during the previous YSRCP government, has now fallen to the 36th position under the present coalition rule, reflecting a complete collapse of governance and discipline.
Sudarshan Reddy alleged that police officers are increasingly acting at the behest of political bosses, even disregarding court orders and becoming tools in political conspiracies. He cited the recent Kadiri incident as a clear example, stating that under the directions of Minister Nara Lokesh, sections of the “yellow media” attempted to give a political colour to a private family dispute and falsely implicate the YSR Congress Party. He alleged that, as part of this conspiracy, the police harassed a young man and played with his life instead of upholding the law.
He further said that the police of remaining mute spectators while belt shops operate openly, liquor flows freely, and crimes involving ganja, drugs, harassment of women, land grabbing and corruption rise unchecked. At the same time, he said, false cases are being foisted and harassment unleashed only against those who question government failures or stand with the YSRCP. Warning that such politically motivated misuse of power will not go unaccounted for, Sudarshan Reddy said officers who violate the law to serve political vendettas will inevitably be held accountable in the future.
