Taking strong objection to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy hinting at imposing more taxes in the coming days, YSR Congress Party on Tuesday said that any anti-people measure would be fought tooth and nail.
“Chief Minister seeking the cooperation of opposition parties during the budget session for the imminent price rise is ridiculous and the Congress Government is toeing the same path of the nine-year TDP term” party official spokesperson Bajireddy Goardhan told reporters here.
The dichotomy of the government is, he said, it hardly spends 50 per cent of the funds allocated in the budget and goes in for new taxes. The welfare measures, including seven popular schemes of YSR, are depleted and discouraged on one hand and new taxes are imposed besides hike in charges of power and other utilities, he said.
The State and Centre are waiting for the elections in Uttar Pradesh and other states to be over to impose a heavy dose of hike in petro prices and railway fare besides power charges, he said adding that the Party will oppose any anti-people policies of the government.
Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy had given a clear indication on the imminent rise of fuel prices after the elections.
During the past three years, there were only allocations but no amount was actually released in the intended measure which resulted in dampening the spirit of many welfare schemes. Though the State boasts of introducing a 1, 45,000 crores budget, it has no intention of spending the funds in full. This was clear during the past three years.
The excise revenue has gone up by 200 per cent, new taxes will be imposed in the coming days to get more revenue and it is unbecoming of a chief minister to seek the cooperation of opposition parties for this exercise that too in the assembly, Bajireddy said
