Sharmila crosses 2500-km milestone

Press Release
Hyderabad, June 23, 2013: Sharmila’s padayatra has created history of sorts as she goes past the 2,500 km milestone rekindling hope among the dejected people who are vexed with the anti-people policies of the state government and its nexus with TDP in keeping YS Jagan Mohan away from the people.
“Taking ahead the agenda of the welfare state of the Party, Sharmila will be crossing the milestone at Kakarapalli in Tuni today and her padayatra has been rolling on in the true spirit of the mass contact progamme,” party MLA Bhumana Karunakara Reddy told reporters here on Sunday.
The Long March of Sharmila has been well received by the people as she raised their hopes with the assurance thatY.S.Jagan mohan Reddy will bring back the gold era of YSR welfare state. “The deceptive politics of the Congress and TDP have been well exposed as Sharmila could drive home the point of how her brother became a victim of political vendetta.
People have understood the game plan of the opponents very well and are eagerly waiting to pronounce their verdict at the earliest available opportunity. The overwhelming response to the padayatra of Sharmila speaks of the mood of the people,” he said.
The Maro prajaprasthanam padayatra is not for the sake of creating records, though such a feat by a woman will not go unnoticed and will be recorded with golden letters in the history, he said, the programme was aimed at highlighting the failure of the Congress government and its tie-up with TDP, CBI and vested interests to keep Jagan in judicial custody for more than a year without any proper reason and Sharmila has been successfully carrying out the task.
Recently, there was another padayatra in the state, which seemed like a nocturnal activity and the TDP leader folded up the programme as it neither covered the intended purpose nor could it impress his own cadre and leaders who left the party in droves, Reddy said.
Sharmila’s padayatra, on the other hand, was well received in all the regions of the state and her racha banda programmes, public meetings or interaction with various sections of people drew very good response. She could assure them that the despair would soon end and Jagan will be at the helm of affairs and the state will take a turnaround in terms of development and welfare.
“It took 188 days for Shrmila to cover the 2,500 km mark. En-route she covered 1,500 villages spread over 91 assembly constituencies touching 35 municipalities, 7 municipal corporations and 155 mandals. She interacted with over 3.5 crore people during the padayatra so far,” he said.
It is a daunting task for a woman to walk this distance and Sharmila could derive the strength from the people’s support besides emulating her father and the commitment to carry out Y.S Jagan mohan Reddy’s message to the masses, he said.
YSR was the person responsible for bringing Congress to power for the second term and the Kiran Kumar Reddy government has been pitch-forked onto the helm of affairs. People are not happy with the Congress and they will teach a fitting lesson at the hustings, he said.
