Press Release
“There was no need for the police to be so tough and keep people away from having a glimpse of their leader who was on way to court from Chanchalguda jail,” party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu told reporters here on Friday.
They have arrested people and used force to scatter people away at the jail premises where followers of Jagan have come to see him. At the Court as well, they turned the area into a virtual fortress and imposed restrictions on the movement of people.
Even family members were not allowed inside by the police initially and they have to seek legal help to meet YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Such incidents are in bad taste in a democracy as there need not be so many restrictions to meet a person who is in judicial remand, he said.
He also criticized TDP leaders for repeatedly bringing up the issue of lifestyle in jails. Taking objection to Y Ramakrishnudu’s remarks, he said “it is a known fact that Jagan is a teetotaler and our leader Konda Surekha has challenged him on the issue.
There is no response to her challenge but the TDP leaders do not stop hurling baseless accusations. All this noise is only to scuttle the meetings of Jagan with people in jail. The jail authorities are aware of the rights of a person who is in judicial remand and meetings are permitted accordingly,” he said.
“We firmly believe that Jagan will come out when he is legally permitted to come out and in our opinion he will be with us in four months time,’ he said.
Reiterating that Congress government in the state is in a minority and does not have the required numbers, he said, “the main opposition TDP is extending its full support to Kiran Kumar Reddy. Naidu’s game plan was fully exposed when he issued a whip to vote against the no confidence motion moved by the other opposition parties.”
There is no need for us to compromise with any one and we do not have any pact with any party, much so with the Congress, he said.
