Gear up for Local Body polls: Sajjala

Tadepalli, Oct 11: YSRCP State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy directed party leaders to make full-scale preparations for the upcoming local-body elections, with candidates, alternative candidates, legal teams and election war rooms identified well before the notification.

Addressing regional coordinators, district presidents, Parliament observers, coordination secretaries, MLAs and constituency coordinators through a teleconference, Sajjala said the election schedule could be announced at short notice and there would be no time for last-minute preparations. Potential candidates for municipalities, wards, divisions, ZPTCs, MPTCs and panchayats should be shortlisted now, with two or three alternatives kept ready for every seat.

He directed aspirants to immediately secure caste, no-dues and other mandatory certificates, warning that administrative delays could obstruct nominations. Every delay or refusal should be documented so that the party can approach election authorities or courts.

Sajjala called for legal connectivity down to village level, constituency and district war rooms, and dedicated legal, media, digital and election-coordination teams. Sensitive nomination centres, polling stations, counting centres and strong rooms should be identified in advance.

Every violation, official refusal, police intervention or harassment of prospective candidates must be recorded through video and documentary evidence, he said. Reservations and roster implementation should also be scrutinised with the help of experienced revenue officials and legal experts.

Sajjala said election-related issues must be fought simultaneously on three fronts: politically, through formal complaints before election authorities, and legally from the High Court to the Supreme Court wherever required.

He also asked the party to examine the legality of holding elections on old electoral rolls before completion of the SIR process and publication of updated voter lists.
