No Loom Insurance Coverage

Guntur: Though there was an insurance scheme on paper for loom workers, it was not there in practice in the TDP government. As per the scheme, handloom workers were to be given Rs.50,000 if the loom suffered damage.
This was not being done. Moreover, the TDP governement had promised a corporation for weavers' welfare with Rs.1,000 crore. Instead, it was now talking of an advisory council for weavers and betraying the handloom workers.
These facts were brought to light during the course of an informal interaction some weavers belonging to Chirala in Prakasam district had with Leader of Opposition in AP assembly, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, during the course of his Padayatra in Guntur district.
