Special Status is synonymous to development: YS Jagan

Reaffirming that Special Category Status (SCS) is the only answer for development and job opportunities to the youth, YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that all avenues would be tapped to mount pressure for achieving the SCS and the last salvo would be the quitting of our Party MPs from Parliament in protest.

Addressing the students and youth at the 10th Yuva Bheri in Anantapur on Tuesday, the Leader of Opposition said that the fight for SCS would continue and intensify further as it is the only way that can provide jobs to the youth. Investments would pour in not by the face value of Chandrababu Naidu but with the incentives being given to industrialists who would come in droves to set up shop in the state.

We will explore all avenues and fight at all the available platforms raising our voice demanding SCS and when all options fail our MPs would quit the Parliament taking the fight into the Delhi camp, he said.

Chandrababu Naidu who has been telling that SCS is a closed chapter should realise that it was he would had advocated for increasing the period of SCS from the promised five years to 15 years.

Driving his point home he has used the AV (audio visual) presentation of what Narendra Modi and Venkaiah Naidu had assured about the SCS during the electioneering and the changing tunes of Chandrababu Naidu from seeking 15 years of SCS to diluting the stand by telling that it is not a wonder drug and finally settling for whatever they could get like special package as they cannot be choosers.

This shows the mindset of Chandrababu Naidu and AVs had also covered his promises on jobs and unemployment stipend. He has been employing his use-and-throw policy and ignoring all the poll promises. When we have been raising the voice for SCS, he has been deviating the topic by trying to put up a meek defence stating that the XIV Finance Commission was not favouring for according SCS to any favour.

But 11 states are enjoying the SCS even now and when figures are to be considered the 11 states have a population of 6.2 % of the national figure and the amount granted has been 1.32 lakh crores while our state which has 4.08 % of the national population was given just 46,000 crores which shows the importance of SCS, he said adding that in written reply in the Lok Sabha the Government has said that SCS is being continued for 11 states.

We have been fighting for getting SCS and held dharnas and hunger strike at Mangalagiri and Guntur and my fast was foiled ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Vijyawada When we had called for a bandh demanding SCS Chandrababu Naidu had played a strike breaker by trying to foil the bandh, he said.

Reiterating that the SCS is the right of the state which was announced in the parliament and endorsed by the main opposition BJP as well, and it has included it in the election manifesto, and now going back on the word.

SCS was announced in lieu of foregoing Hyderabad, which houses employment generating industries, and such a precious clause should not be foregone and settle for some insignificant package, he said.

Giving a local touch he said Chandrababu Naidu has promised many things to Ananthapur but has never fulfilled any of the promises. He talked about setting up of a Central University besides AIIMS model hospital, Smart City, Textile Park, Food Park, Hardware Cluster, Steel Plant, completion of Handri-Neeva project but nothing was done so far, he said.

We have to join hands and take the fight further to achieve SCS, he said and listened to the views of the students as well.
