RBI Governor replies to Vijayamma's letter

Hyderabad, Jan 11, 2013: In response to the letter
written by YSR Congress Party honourary president Smt. Y. S. Vijayamma objecting
to closure of public counters at Reserve Bank regional offices, RBI Governor
Duvvuri Subba Rao informed that the counters would be operational at commercial
bank branches.
In a reply sent to her, Subba Rao said the public
counters operating for the exchange of mutilated and old currency notes would
be opened at national bank branches bringing the services closer to the public.
He said the services of the staff running the counters would be utilized by the
RBI in some other departments.
In her letter addressed to the RBI Governor on Dec
28, 2012, Smt. Vijayamma requested him to withdraw the decision to close public counters.
