Smt. Vijayamma addressing reporters at Media Point on Wednesday
Hyderabad, June 12,
2013: Lashing out at the Kiran Kumar Reddy-led Congress Government for its
lackadaisical approach towards Jalayagnam projects, YSR Congress Party
honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma on Wednesday said the Government failed
to complete them leaving suffering to the farming community in the state.
Addressing reporters at
the media point soon after the assembly was adjourned, she said YSR took the
completion of Jalayagnam Projects as a prestigious issue and completed 28 of
them providing irrigation facilities to 21 lakh acres.
She said 75 per cent of
the construction was over with regard to some projects while 90 per cent was
over in case of others even when YSR was alive but the present Government had failed
to complete the meager part of the projects.
The status of the
projects has been facing a ‘as is where is’ condition for a long time due to
Government’s negligence. Recalling the
efforts of Dr. YSR who brought all permissions to the Polavaram and Pranahita-Chevella
projects, she said YSR sought national status to nine projects in the state
when he had called on Sonia Gandhi soon after the 2009 elections.
Smt. Vijayamma said
while YSR had a clear plan for the economic development of the farmers and the
downtrodden and launched the Jalayagnam project to end the miseries of the
farmers permanently, the present Government has miserably failed to take
forward the projects.
“Pranahita-Chevella and
Polavaram projects have been facing negligence of the Government which failed
to get national status accorded to them by the Centre. Nothing moved on
Pranahita-Chevella after the death of YSR who laid the foundation stone for
it,” she lamented.
