Vadamalapeta (Chittoor): Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has left the weavers of Nagari in the lurch by delaying payment of subsidy, Leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
Addressing a public meeting in Nagari constituency on the 63rd day of the Praja Sankalpa Yatra, here on Tuesday, he said the handloom and powerloom weavers were paid subsidy only for a couple of months by the state government and thereafter the payments were stopped without any reason. The chief minister should learn from neighbouring Tamil Nadu and welfare programmes implemented for the benefit of weavers, YS Jagan said. "The AP government is not implementing even 10 percent of the welfare schemes that the TN government is providing for their weavers," he added.
"It is only during election time that Chandrababu Naidu remembers the BC community. Several fringe groups in Chittoor are pleading the government for BC categorisation for several years now, however, there is no response from the government," YS Jagan said. He assured the people of Nagari that the YSRCP government will accord top priority to the people of backward communities besides providing education loans to students, farmers and pension for the senior citizens. He thanked the people for gathering in huge numbers and participating in the padayatra despite the oppressive weather.
