Tadepalli, Oct 9: At the YSRCP central office, the One Crore Signature Campaign poster was unveiled by YSRCP State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy. The event was attended by MLCs Lella Appi Reddy, Monditoka Arun Kumar, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, Vijayawada Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, NTR District YSRCP President Devineni Avinash, along with several party leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that from tomorrow, a massive people’s movement will be launched across the state against the privatization of government medical colleges. He said the campaign will continue for over 45 days, starting with the Rachabanda program in all 175 constituencies tomorrow, where posters will be released simultaneously. As part of the agitation plan, huge constituency-level rallies will be organized on October 28, followed by district-level rallies and memorandum submissions on November 12. On November 23, the collected signature sheets from all districts will be sent to the party's central office. On November 24, they will be consolidated at the headquarters, and on November 25, under the leadership of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, one crore signatures will be submitted to the Governor. He appealed to intellectuals, civil society organizations, and other political parties to participate actively in this campaign.
Highlighting the importance of the medical college initiative, Sajjala recalled that while only 12 medical colleges were established in Andhra Pradesh over a span of 100 years, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, during his five-year rule, laid the foundation for 17 new government medical colleges along with teaching hospitals. Out of these, seven have already been completed. However, Chandrababu Naidu, despite all facilities being provided, has shown no intention to complete these projects. He has even targeted Pulivendula Medical College out of sheer political vendetta.
Sajjala stated that Chandrababu’s sole motive behind promoting PPP (Public-Private Partnership) is to benefit his own associates. Already, five medical colleges have been handed over under the PPP mode, allowing his people to mortgage the lands and make profits, while pushing the poor back into dependency on expensive private hospitals. “Why does Chandrababu bear such deep animosity towards the poor?” he questioned, warning that Naidu’s conspiracies to privatize medical colleges will be firmly resisted by the YSRCP.
He further said that across India, there is already a shortage of super-specialty doctors, and during YS Jagan’s tenure, efforts were made to address this gap. Just when the dream of the poor was about to be realized, Chandrababu suddenly reversed progress, moving ahead with a plan to privatize government medical colleges. “This is a dangerous conspiracy that must be defeated. YSRCP has taken up the responsibility to safeguard the future of government medical colleges, and as part of this effort, Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Narsipatnam today,” Sajjala said.
