JanaSena MLA’s crimes expose collapse of women’s safety

Tadepalli, Jan 27: YSRCP Women’s Wing State President and MLC Varudu Kalyani strongly condemned brutality of Railway Koduru JanaSena MLA and Government Whip Arava Sridhar subjecting a women employee to rape, threats, and mental torture for nearly one-and-a-half years. Addressing the media at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, she said the coalition government had completely failed to protect women, allowing ruling party MLAs to act with impunity under the intoxication of power.
Varudu Kalyani stated that the survivor has reportedly spoken of being trapped, repeatedly raped, threatened, assaulted, forced into abortions, and terrorised with threats to her child. She said the emergence of videos had shocked the state and exposed how coalition leaders were “playing with women’s lives,” while police remained silent and victims were instead being harassed with false cases. She cited multiple recent incidents involving ruling party leaders to underline that not a single case had seen firm action, emboldening perpetrators.
She questioned the silence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, the Home Minister, and the Speaker, asking whether their tough statements on women’s safety were only “cinema dialogues.” She demanded that a suo motu case be registered against Arava Sridhar, his immediate arrest, suspension from JanaSena, and disqualification as an MLA. She also called for the Women’s Commission to intervene suo motu.
Varudu Kalyani asserted that YSRCP would stand firmly with the survivor and continue its struggle until justice is delivered, warning that unless strong action is taken now, atrocities against women will only escalate further.
