Coalition government abandons farmers 

Ongole, July 18: Former Minister and YSRCP Regional Coordinator Karumuri Nageswara Rao strongly criticised the TDP-led coalition government for completely neglecting the welfare of farmers. Speaking to the media at the Party office here on Friday, he said agriculture has been thrown into disorder under the present administration. He pointed out that 250 farmers have died by suicide in just one year, but the government has only acknowledged 104 such cases and provided no significant support to the affected families.
Karumuri said that the coalition promised Rs 20,000 to each farmer under the "Annadata Sukhibhava" scheme before elections. Even after a full year in power, not a single rupee has reached the farmers. No crop including mango, paddy, tobacco, chilli or cotton is getting minimum support price. Traders and middlemen are forming syndicates, preventing farmers from getting fair prices, while consumers are forced to pay high rates.
He recalled that under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government, farmers were given free crop insurance through e-crop, prompt compensation for natural disasters, and input subsidies. Today, the coalition has abandoned these initiatives. There is no urea, no support, and no response. He said the government’s failure is so severe that people are struggling to afford even basic essentials like dal.
