YSRCP Women’s Wing President and MLC Varudu Kalyani
Tadepalli, March 12: YSRCP Women’s Wing President and MLC Varudu Kalyani lambasted CM Chandrababu Naidu, stating that his remarks on women’s empowerment in the Assembly are akin to ghosts reciting scriptures. She accused him of lacking the moral authority to speak on the subject, having deceived women by failing to implement election promises.
Kalyani highlighted that free bus services for women, a scheme operational in neighbouring states, remain absent in Andhra Pradesh even after ten months of the coalition government. She pointed out the absence of budget allocations for "Aadabidda Nidhi" and meagre funding for "Thalli Ki Vandanam," with only Rs. 8,200 crore allocated for 2025-26 against the required Rs. 13,000 crore, and zero funds for 2024-25. The "Deepam" scheme, requiring Rs. 4,000 crore, was allotted just Rs. 2,439 crore, with only 90 lakh of 1.48 crore BPL families receiving one cylinder this year.
Kalyani contrasted this with the YSRCP regime under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, where women received justice and economic independence, citing schemes like "Ammavodi" that reduced school dropouts, later copied as "Thalliki Vandanam" but poorly executed by the TDP-led coalition. She accused Chandrababu of betraying women historically, such as reneging on Rs. 14,000 crore loan waivers for DWCRA women between 2014-19 and copying Jagan’s "Disha App" as the "Shakti App."
Kalyani challenged Chandrababu to clarify when he would fulfil promises like zero-interest loans (Rs.3-10 lakh) and industrial opportunities for one lakh women, questioning how he would serve the remaining 2.49 crore women. She also criticized his personal attacks on Jagan, demanding that Chandrababu reveal how much of his wealth he shared with his siblings and mother, noting he transferred his mother’s property to his son, Nara Lokesh.
