Tadepalli, Feb 22: Poonuru Gowtham Reddy, former Chairman of FiberNet Corporation, condemned attempts to dismantle the state-run FiberNet, accusing CM Chandrababu Naidu of plotting to hand it over to private companies.
He highlighted that during the YSRCP government, with former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s support, FiberNet services were offered at Rs. 190, leading the corporation towards profitability.
Gowtham Reddy stated massive corruption in FiberNet under Chandrababu’s regime (2014–2019), which the CID confirmed, implicating senior leaders, including Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. He recalled Chandrababu’s involvement in the Skill Development Corporation scam, stating that he is now trying to weaken public institutions like FiberNet to evade legal cases.
“If Chandrababu has courage, he should face the cases instead of destroying state-run corporations,” he asserted.
He emphasized FiberNet’s growth under YSRCP, with improved connectivity to educational institutions and arrangements for 20 lakh free set-top boxes from the Centre, urging the current government to use them to boost revenues.
Gowtham Reddy criticized legal double standards, questioning why a case was filed against Jagan for visiting a mirchi yard, while no action was taken against Chandrababu for attending a musical night. He urged the Election Commission to act fairly and accused the current administration of trying to control media houses and cripple public institutions for political gains.
