Chandrababu betrayed DWCRA Women, turned AP into Casino State

Visakhapatnam, Jan 20: YSRCP Women’s Wing President and MLC Varudu Kalyani said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has betrayed DWCRA women and pushed them into distress while turning Andhra Pradesh into a “casino state.” Speaking at the YSRCP central office in Visakhapatnam, she said the NABARD report has exposed the government’s failure, showing that bank loans to DWCRA groups have fallen by Rs.16,600 crore compared to last year and women’s savings have dropped by Rs.479 crore. She stated that DWCRA groups, which were progressing under Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, are now in decline under Chandrababu’s rule. She said the zero-interest loan scheme has been completely neglected, nearly Rs.7,000 crore in dues are pending, and the promise to increase zero-interest loans up to Rs.10 lakh has been broken. She recalled that under Y.S. Jagan’s government, Rs.25,500 crore was credited in four phases under the Asara scheme, NPAs were drastically reduced, and DWCRA groups were revived with financial support and market linkages, whereas NABARD data now clearly shows falling credit and weakening DWCRA institutions.

Varudu Kalyani said Chandrababu’s rule has not only weakened women economically but has also degraded the state socially. She said Sankranti celebrations were turned into an insult to women, with obscene dances, gambling, casinos, mini-bars, and open liquor flow being promoted across the state. She said this is not coalition governance but “casino governance,” with Andhra Pradesh becoming a centre for gambling and vulgar displays, and liquor sales rising sharply with belt shops spreading everywhere. She questioned why the Home Minister has remained inactive, why ruling party leaders organising these activities are not booked or paraded publicly, and why police were deployed to protect such events instead of stopping them. She said ministers themselves have legitimised this culture, women’s dignity and safety have been compromised, and even court directions are being ignored.

She said Chandrababu has failed women on both economic and moral fronts, crippling DWCRA groups financially while encouraging gambling, vulgarity, and liquor culture. She demanded immediate action against those running obscene shows, casinos, and gambling hubs, and insisted that the government honour its promise to provide zero-interest loans up to Rs.10 lakh to DWCRA women, stating that women across Andhra Pradesh have decided they will not support such governance again.
