Authoritarian governance and police misuse by Naidu’s government

Guntur, June 2: The YSRCP strongly condemned Andhra Pradesh’s coalition government for adopting authoritarian tactics, orchestrating a reign of terror through police misuse.
Speaking outside Guntur District Jail after visiting remanded former MP Nandigam Suresh and party leader Turaka Kishore, YSRCP State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy criticised the government for using a “Red Book” to suppress dissent and target opponents.
“This scripted persecution, without evidence, aims to silence everyone from activists to YSRCP leaders,” he asserted, urging civil society to safeguard democracy.
Since last year’s elections, Sajjala said, TDP cadres have unleashed violence, followed by state-sponsored repression through fabricated cases. Police, meant to uphold the law, file baseless charges against YSRCP members. He cited Nandigam Suresh, facing twelve false cases, and Turaka Kishore, targeted over old incidents. Such actions, he warned, threaten society, leaving citizens vulnerable.
Sajjala highlighted police brutality, like the assault of three youths in Tenali, comparing it to autocratic regimes. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son endorsed “Red Book” governance, encouraging police impunity. “When police bypass judicial processes, what’s the purpose of our legal system?” he questioned, citing Harikrishna’s torture in Palnadu and denial of family visits.
He also noted former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy’s false imprisonment and former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi’s deteriorating health due to persecution. The government stifles protests like “Backstab Day” by denying permissions, fearing public discontent. Sajjala vowed legal battles against these injustices, warning that unchecked vendettas risk anarchy. “These evil traditions will ensnare their perpetrators,” he cautioned.
