As many as 25 persons, most of them women, were killed in the stampede at Rajahmundry ghat on the first day of Godavari pushkaralu. Till date, no family of the victims got compensation from the government.
It was a man made disaster as the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's government hired film director Boyapati Srinu to shoot a short film at the ghat where lacks of people thronged to offer prayers on the auspicious day.
Without following any safety measures, the authorities closed all the gates during the shooting. The gathering of people swelled inside the premises. When the gates are opened, stampede took place claiming 25 lives .
