At least a year before the elections, YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has already announced three MLA candidates so far. He has announced slain YSRCP activist Cherukulapadu Narayana Reddy’s wife as the candidate from Pattikonda. Later, minority community leader Hafiz Khan’s name was announced form Kurnool town. In Kuppam, represented by CM Chandrababu Naidu, he has announced the name of former IAS officer Chandramouli.
During a Boya, Valmiki community meet, he made another significant announcement. He said that one candidate from the community would be given ticket to fight as the MP from either Kurnool or Anantapur. This announcement has been warmly welcomed by the Valmiki and Boyas, who felt cheated after Chandrababu backtracked on the promise of including them in the STs.
Though the TDP is trying all the tricks in the trade to dampen the Praja Sankalpa Yatra spirit by engineering defections, the turnout to YS Jagan’s yatra is worrying the TDP to no end. Despite all the attempts, it is unable to wean away people from YS Jagan.
