Vijayamma writes to PM seeking flood relief
Hyderabad, Nov 10, 2012: YSR Congress Party today wrote to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh requesting the Centre to come to the immediate rescue of farmers and artisans who have lost their crops and property due to the Nilam cyclone and the subsequent floods that ravaged the state from Nov 1 to 4.
In a letter faxed to PM, party honourary President Smt. Y. S. Vijayamma sought the Centre to ensure that crop loans with interest should be waived and fresh loans offered to fully affected farmers including tenant farmers besides supplying seeds for the Rabi crop at 75% subsidy.
Addressing media persons at the party central office here, party MLC Jupudi Prabhakara Rao said Vijayamma also sought an appointment with the PM at the earliest so that a party delegation would meet him to seek financial help to the flood victims.
In the letter, Vijayamma sought that loans of Self Help Groups (SHGs) be rescheduled without interest by six months in the flood-hit areas and 25 per cent of the insurance amount paid to all eligible farmers.
While ensuring procurement of discolored and partly damaged agricultural produce by its agencies, the fully affected farmers including tenant farmers should be paid a minimum compensation of Rs.10,000 per acre from Calamity Relief Fund as per the recommendations of the
Bhupinder Singh Hooda Committee, she requested in the letter.
Vijayamma also requested the PM to raise the ex-gratia to Rs.3 lakh each to families of those killed and reconstruct the damaged houses in the floods, Prabhakara Rao said.
Vijayamma requested the PM to help the victims immediately through ration supplies partially and through financial compensation partially. Besides compensating the cattle growers who lost their live stock with financial help, rural artisans and fishermen also should be compensated to make up for the losses suffered by them in the floods, she requested in the letter.

Vijayamma told the PM that Central and state Governments should come to the rescue of the people as 31 persons died , 41,000 houses and crops in 20 lakh acres were damaged, 670 cattle and 7000 birds were killed in the floods.
