YSRCP to launch agitation for farmers

Hyderabad, Dec 13,
2012: YSR Congress party has decided to launch an agitation protesting against
the Government’s negligence of the agricultural sector.

The party took the
decision at a meeting of the MLAs, MLCs, senior leaders and district unit
conveners at the party central office here on Wednesday, according to Konatala
Ramakrishna, member-convener of the party’s Political Affairs Committee.

Party MP Mekapati
Rajamohana Reddy also attended the meeting which felt that the Kiran Kumar
Reddy Government has put into practice the ideology of the TDP president
Chandrababu Naidu who said agriculture was waste.

Ramakrishna told reporters the
meeting felt that the Government has failed in compensating the Nilam cyclone
affected farmers and in distributing input subsidy to the farmers.

“While farmers in
Maharashtra are getting a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs.4000 per quintal
for their cotton produce, cotton farmers in our state are not getting even
Rs.2000 per quintal,” the meeting felt and demanded MSP of Rs.3900 per quintal
of cotton.

The meeting lambasted
the Government for failing to provide 25 paisa interest loans and interest free
loans up to one Rs. 1 lakh for the farming community and to issue identity
cards to all tenant-farmers. The meeting demanded the Government to conduct the
co-operative society elections as per the new co-operative act.

Party leaders including Ummareddy Venkateswarlu and Mekapati Raja Mohana Reddy and others also participated in the press meet.
