YSRCP opposes demolition of flood victim's houses

Nellore: YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly condemned the Andhra Pradesh government actions on Thursday to demolish houses in Mansoornagar of the district and render the flood-affected residents of the colony homeless.

During his tour of the flood affected Nellore district, YS Jagan interacted with people of low lying areas whose houses were submerged in the floods. People have been residing in the colony for over 30 years, he said and alleged that the state government does not have any concrete plans to either relocate the residents or to compensate them adequately. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has shown his private guest house on the banks of Krishna river in Vijayawada as residential house in official documents, while he is demolishing the houses of the poor, YS Jagan said.
He said that the YSR Congress strongly opposes demolishing of houses on the grounds that they are the cause of floods in Nellore. The government instead should focus their demolition on the illegal constructions on canals that provide water to the crops. These canals are occupied by influential people, he said.
