Vijayawada: The Central Government on Wednesday decided to help the distraught chilli farmers who were reeling under price crash.

The Union Government announced an offer price of Rs 5,000 per quintal for chilli produce and the Centre will also offer an overhead price of Rs 1,250. The Central government would purchase chilli produce through state government agencies. This was announced by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu during a press meet in New Delhi.
As part of this, the Centre would purchase a total of 88,300 metric tonnes of chillies in Andhra Pradesh and 33,700 metric tonnes in Telangana. The decision came into effect from May 2 to 31.
